5 on Friday {2/13}

The weekend is here! Horray! That cute, pudgy flying baby will be making his rounds tomorrow with those arrows: be on the look out for flowers and chocolates ladies. So let's all link up and enjoy our last day of the week together before the romance begins!

{One}
   Valentine's Day. I know at this point y'all are just as ready for it to come and go as I am; after all of the romance that is headed our way of course! I am just so ready for the ridiculous perfume commercials to stop being played. It's a running joke in my house that if you don't know what to get a woman for Christmas or Valentine's - obviously she will love random perfumes that have people on horseback and swimming in the Mediterranean to promote them. Totally. Lol. I prefer flowers personally.

{Two}
   I finished the carrier cover this week. I love it. Classic with a touch of color and pattern. It's a nice dark color so it acts like a blackout curtain does at home when Lizzie sleeps; but it's a light cotton fabric so she won't sweat under the black. I know black is not everyone's cut of tea, but I've got a few pinks and whites up my sleeve : ) Be on the lookout for the tutorial on Monday!

{Three}
    I am redecorating the house again. I can't help it. I have been watching a lot of HGTV lately and the decor bug bit me very hard this time. Our bedroom got a little face lift with new art above the bed and raising the curtains to the ceiling. It really does make a huge difference when it comes to ceiling height. The room feels so much taller now. I love walking into our bedroom now that it looks a little more polished. I think I sleep better when the room is all done up.

{Four}
   I have some big plans for that plain headboard of mine. It matches our wall color way too much right now. I wish we could paint but as you know, renting. Boo. So instead of that I bought all of the supplies to pretty the headboard up like this one. Now I just need to start it, finish it and love it.

{Five}
   And I have even more plans for new throw pillows on the bed. I want to match the gold in the new pieces above the bed. I'm leaning towards the arrows or maybe even our monogram in gold right in the middle of a nice, fluffy pillow.

New projects always make my heart go pitter patter!   

Something's Gotta Give

I am in love with the house from that movie! Like crazy in love. It was on TV yesterday during Lizzie's late nap and instead of cleaning the very neglected living room, I ended up lying on the couch and watched the whole film from start to finish. I could feel my decorator heart yearning for a house like that one. I love that it is beachy but not beach themed. The entire movie, I only saw one seashell. Complete and total perfection!

The white walls, enormous windows, cushy furniture and black accents were making me want to gut everything in my home and start over to make something resembling that gorgeous house. It is perfect. And the piece de resistance is the kitchen. Oh that kitchen. 

The subway tile. White, open cabinets. Black counters. Pendant lights. And that massive island! My dream come true. 

This is one of the major downsides to military life. Constant moving = No time to invest in a dream home. It will be nothing but rentals for the time being. Sure we have friends that have bought houses and made them their dream spaces. But for us, we will wait until we can make our dream home our forever home. I can't wait until we are living in it and for more then three years! But unfortunately (or fortunately), that wont be anytime soon; but I can keep on designing until then. I am pretty sure this is exactly what I want; at least for now : )

A New Diamond to Polish

Oh I am so excited! I finally found the perfect piece to be a little bar/storage area in the dining room. I have been wanting storage in the dining room ever since we moved in last year. But I never found anything that I really liked that wasn't an arm and a leg. So of course I went on Craigslist and found this beauty. It was a total steal at only 30 bucks. Check it out.  

She needs a good sanding, some new paint and definitely new pulls for the drawers but I like it. Up close, you can tell that whoever painted this cabinet last didn't sand the previous paint off; so there are some spots of hot pink shining through. But it is solid wood and it has great lines to work with. I still have a few projects to finish up around the house before I start in on a big one like this one, but I just couldn't wait to share! Wish me luck that I finish the others quickly so I can dive right on in : ) 

It is Friday

Time to link up with Darci, Christina, April, and Natasha for another round of 5 on Friday! I cannot believe this week is over already. It went by really, really fast. I think it is because I have been running around everyday this week trying to get things done before the 14th because that's our "ten days till packing up mark". Oh wait...crap... today's the 17th and I still have things on the list. Damn that list. It keeps on getting longer every day.

This is not my list but one I found on Pinterest earlier this month that has been so helpful. Some of the tips I have no say in (Research movers? Nope. The Navy assigns them.) While others, I completely would have forgotten about (Preorder new checks with your new address, genius!)  Listotic, yall are lifesavers.

{Two}

I had more then a couple of these to help power me through the week. How many exactly? Let's just say I paid the power bill at the location by my house and at one point I am pretty sure I could hear colors. 

{Three}

Hubby is finally getting his own 'I Love Me Room' in the new house and he wants one of these to bring the whole 'guy room' vibe full circle. 

An I Love Me Room is like a man cave on military steroids. It will be filled with all of his plaques, pictures and work related goodies to be proudly displayed and awed over. I have to admit though, I kind of like these globes. 

{Four}

I just downloaded Cleaving: A Story of Marriage, Meat and Obsession by Julie Powell today. I don't think this one is going to be as chipper as Julie & Julia was, but I am looking forward to a new book to crack open. 

{Five}

I got bangs. My hair is so now. 

I wish I could say this weekend is just going to be us three sitting around the house and slowly de-cluttering but nope not us. We are hitting the road as soon as Hubby comes home and we are off on another road trip. Thankfully we are not going cross country this time, just three hours north to Washington DC. It will be our last time in that beautiful city for a while. We have a Birthday to celebrate, a Homecoming for a friend that has been in Japan the past three years and our own Bon Voyage party. Hopefully I'll remember to take pictures this time. Now we are off to begin our travels. Have a fantastic weekend everyone! 

New Home, New Decor

I think I found the direction for my new office/craft room. I want to keep everything as light and airy as possible for our new house. Most of our stuff now is heavy and dark (most of it was Hubby's before we got married, you know how that goes) and I want to try to add a slightly feminine touch to our new spaces. 

So, I kind of raided the Dot & Bo website today and loaded up my cart with a whole bunch of goodies that I love but frankly cannot afford them all. These are the catches that are not only adorable but affordable. Nothing on this list is over 35 bucks! 

1.   That clock. I love an old fashioned alarm clock, but I can only find them in plain silver and I have no way of cracking the face open to paint it without possibly destroying it. This one is perfect for that little bit of color in an all white room.

2.   Glass candy dish. It had been making the Pinterest rounds a few months ago and I finally found where I can buy it. Yay! Get ready anyone who walks into my crafty space, you will leave with a handful of sour skittles. 

3.   Gold scratch map. I am very guilty of taking pictures on trips and they stay either on my phone or make it to print and live in drawers to never be seen. This is the perfect way to not only display our travels but keep an eye on the places we haven't been to yet. And imagine how satisfying would it be to get home and scratch another country off! 

4.   Yellow accessory tray. I am not sure if it is a large cat, a badger or what but I love the color of this catch-all tray. It would go along perfectly with that clock. 

5.   Cities desk calendar. Who wouldn't love to look at a new, gorgeous drawing of a fabulous city every month? That 50s, 60s map design is one of my favorite styles of art. It is feminine but still very Mad Men. I think Hubby will like it. And even if he doesn't, it's going in my space anyway. lol.
