Necessary Shopping

Happy Monday everyone! It is a gorgeous day here in Pensacola and I am going to try my hardest to spend at least a few hours outside of my house today. I have a really bad habit of staying in all day unless I force myself to leave the house. And even then, it is usually to go to another indoor facility (i.e. mostly Target). So as you can imagine, I am as white as a ghost and craving some Vitamin D. I can always go for a nice, long walk around the block for today but maybe a trip to the beach is in the cards soon. I am craving some sand in my toes, a dunk in the ocean with an ice cold, frosty marga...scratch that...bottle of water in my hand. You know you are expecting when your beach cooler has more water in it then the usual grouping of beer and ready made alcoholic fruity drinks.

But even worse, since now I am in the pregnant lady category of stores, I have nothing to wear to said beach. I am 15 weeks in and my body has already changed so much! My stomach has turned into a baby bump, a little one, but it's there. And my boobs. Oh good lord my boobs have already decided to jump up a cup size and all of my old bathing suit tops look like a beach side peep show waiting to happen. Thankfully the gain has avoided my butt for now. If there is one body part I do not need to grow it is that one! You know the term badonkadonk? Yep, that's me :)

So the search is on for a new suit that will cover, support, not cut off circulation, and definitely not look like I found it in a grandma's drawer circa 1992. You know, "complete with matching long skirt and wide brimmed hat in neon green or pink!" Haha. Sexy thoughts I know. So far I have found a few that I like, some maternity, some non but all cute.

The first is from A Pea in the Pod and I like the ruffle to take some attention away from the soon to be watermelon sized bump. Plus it's not black, which is my go to color for just about everything :)

Two and Three are both JoJo Maman Bebe. I usually stay away from patterns, especially horizontal stripes, but I figure this is the one time I can wear it and really get away with it. And I love me some polka dots!

The fourth has an adorable name to go with the ruffles. Tutti-Fruti by Gottex. I love the 40s style with straps and it comes in black, naturally.

Decisions, decisions. So now I am stuck. I have to decide which one I want to grow into over the summer and I cannot make up my mind. Simple and classic or fun and colorful. Help! Should I venture out of my comfort zone or stick to the old standbys?

I Loved Grocery Day

I have never uttered those words in that sequence before in my life. Normally, grocery shopping day is a true chore. I don't like dealing with the traffic to get there and cart traffic in the store is so much worse. I once was hit with a shopping cart somewhere between 3 or 4 times in a single shopping trip. I dread it so much some times I will try to eat the entire contents of my fridge before I go. Look, I have evidence:
Yikes, that is empty.
That was taken during Hubby's last deployment when I was all about avoiding the market and embracing take out and restaurants. Oh man, it was bad. A lot of money was wasted during those months. But now, I am trying to cook as much as possible; And with home cooking comes trips to the market. Usually I head to the local grocery stores around where we live or I high tail it out to the commissary. But this time I wanted to switch it up and try something different, a little bit healthier maybe and a whole lot further. So I hoped in my car and drove to Virginia Beach to shop for the very first time at Trader Joe's and Whole Foods. Let me tell you I found some great things that will definitely keep me going back.
  1. Italian sparkling water from Whole Foods. I have a new love affair with sparkling water after visiting Italy with the Hubby. I had honestly never tried it before, and it is preferred to tap water all over Italy. Especially Naples where the water is, let's say, less than awesome. Whole Foods even has their own line of Italian sparkling water in flavors like mint and lime. Yum.
  2. D:tox System purifying facial mask from Whole Foods. This is my new favorite mask. My skin is so soft from using it. It didn't dry me out or leave me feeling greasy which is great for my acne prone skin. It is loaded with good things like acai and goji berry, it is organic and the company donates 5% of their sales to National Breast Cancer Foundation.
  3. Pesto alla Genovese from Trader Joe's. Can you tell I am re-living my Italy days? lol. I immediately made a little bit of pasta when I got home just to try it. This pesto is delicious. It took me right back to Tuscany. My next cooking experiment is going to be a Florentine steak with the pesto as a side sauce. Double yum.
  4. 365 Ginger Ale from Whole Foods. I had to give this a go after seeing a girlfriend of mine never leave her house without a can of it in her hand. She's pregnant and very into being healthy and eating clean. I had no idea you could have a genuinely healthy soda. No caffeine, no sodium, nothing artificial at all. Just cane sugar for sweetness and color. I think I found my new go-to soda.
  5. Green Fin California Red Table Wine from Trader Joe's. I already broke it in a little haha. It's $3 people. How can you say no? And it's made from organic grapes. I can be a healthy wino :)
  6. Honey Nut O's from Trader Joe's. Because they taste good. These do not taste like those nasty cardboard flavored knock off cereals at all, no sir. Trust me. These babies are good!
And I made myself hungry. lol. Maybe I'll bake up some pesto chicken for dinner tonight. Oh man I am going to run out fast. I think I am going to be heading out to Virginia Beach a lot more often now.

Until next time...

Oh no...

I went a little crazy today :)

Shop crazy.  What started out as a trip to Sephora to pick up some face wash turned into an accidental shopping day. As we all know Sephoras are often located in magical areas called malls. All malls are very dangerous places for me to be sans hubby or a friend to keep me in retail check. I can't help it. Things start jumping off of racks and shelves begging me to take them home. "Over here, you need me in your closet!" "No me, I was made for you!" So dangerous.

I entered the mall wearing blinders and a will of something more like tin then iron. I did pretty well at first. I made my purchase in 5 minutes and left the makeup dreamland without even so much as a batted eyelash towards the rainbow colored wonders. "I did it, boom." Eye of the Tiger is playing in my head. No big deal, let's go home. To get back to my car I have to walk through a certain store that gives out those notorious yellow plastic bags. Yeah, you know what happened next.

Cha-Ching, impulses won. I left with some goodies in a yellow sac. Damn. Oh well. At least I got a purchase high. Yeah, I feel awesome! On the way home I made a few more stops here, a few there, TJ Maxx, Lowe's (It's one of my crafting happy places) and Jo-Ann's fabric store. I always have to stop in just in case a fabric I have been lusting for is on sale. And what do you know, a swiss dot that I have had my eye on for about three months is finally on sale. Yay! New summer skirt, get ready to be made. I love fabric stores. I feel so inspired to start new projects or finish the ones I haven't gotten around to yet. Which reminded me of a certain daunting project I have been avoiding for a few months. The Master Bedroom Headboard. I was so full of optimism and cheer from my day of shopping that I found a massive roll of batting on sale and thought why the hell not; Let's give the boudoir an update. So now I have two projects to start and complete before hubby comes home from deployment. I may have gone a little over the top today with my purchases, but now I have lots and lots to keep me occupied these last few weeks of deployment. Crafting Sammy is coming out. Let the games begin!
